[It seemed like he waited weeks for Friday, not just days, but James did his best to remain calm and not pester Randolph until their appointed time for tea. It wasn't exactly that he wanted to be here. He wanted to see Randolph again, desperately -- knowing he was on the community and being unable to speak to him was almost as traumatic as losing touch with him entirely. But he waited, because he understood, distinctly, that Randolph did not want to see him.

Still, Friday came eventually, and James just managed to make it to tea time without jumping out of his skin. He arrived in the Maccons' parlor and waited by the front door, his bearing almost military to stop himself from fidgeting.]
